Painting

My fascination with Cubism derives from its obscure way of dealing with various spaces and multiple planes. The transformation of the visible order in nature creates contradiction and paradox unlike other art forms. People have a natural tendency to visually interpret things as they appear. The ambiguous and juxtaposed qualities of Cubism add dimension to the realistic representation of things. I am compelled to stay within the Cubist paradigm as a fundamental structure, and have personalized it with my intuition.

Primarily, I use oil on wood or canvas, graphite pencil is exploited occasionally to create an illusion of separate planes. The interplay of positive and negative space through the use of repetitive shapes, combined with a style of shifting and transparent forms are essential features in my paintings. They suggest ambiguity, movement and a sense of space. Although the tangible reality of things is not always visible, I seek unique ways to communicate with viewer.

I earned my BFA from San Jose State University with a concentration on pictorial art. In addition to my practice of art making, I'm an art educator.
