Painting and Printmaking

As a painter and printmaker I am intrigued by the art found in common products used in daily life. Design, which often goes unnoticed, is an essential competitive element in making something desirable. My work draws upon the pattern and texture of some very ordinary items and incorporate them into my own celebration of visual design.

I work with acrylic paint on canvas in traditional mode and in reverse on Plexiglas. The reverse painting technique I use on Plexiglas is rooted in the glass supported paintings of Kandinsky's "Hinterglasmalerai" period. With this technique the I create monotypes and monoprints by a new experimental hand printing process using acrylic paint, rather than traditional inks. The unique characteristic of this media is a glossy rich painterly surface.

I studied painting and drawing in New York City at the High School of Music and Art, the Art Students League and Cooper Union Art School. I have exhibited my work in San Francisco at the San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery; Octavia's Haze Gallery and Robert Allen Fine Arts Gallery; and in the South Bay, at the Triton Museum of Santa Clara; Gallery 9, Los Altos; and Gallery House, Palo Alto. My work is in numerous private and corporate collections on both coasts.
