Photography
It didn't take
long for photography to capture my imagination. As early
as 10 years old, I was already confidently and enthusiastically
answering "photojournalist!" when adults
asked the inevitable "what are you going to do when you grow
up?" question.
I still have the same passion for photography and since
then I have accomplished a lot. While I'm largely self-taught,
I graduated from Brooks Institute in 2003 with a degree in
Visual Journalism and was honored by being accepted to the
Eddie Adams Barnstorm XV workshop in New York. The Eddie
Adams Barnstorm Workshop accepts only 100 up-and-coming photographers
worldwide each year by portfolio. That year, 2002, focused
on photographing New York on the 1st anniversary of the 9/11
terrorist attacks. It was an unforgettable experience. During
that period of time I was also a staff photographer at the
Santa Barbara News-Press in California.
My focus is travel photography and
I shoot mainly digital but still shoot film, in particular
with the medium format Holga "toy" camera. I shoot mainly in color (but very often
convert to black & white) and look for quiet or intimate
moments when color, light, gesture , and bold graphic elements
combine to create a photograph that hopefully speaks to the
spirit and the soul.
