Gertrude Mellon  |   Statement

Painting

A native of Ireland, Gertrude Mellon received her Undergraduate Degree in Art and Design at University College Carlow. She worked for many years as a Graphic Artist with design and advertising agencies in Dublin, moving in 1984 to Chicago, New York and eventually to California in 1989.

Growing up in rural Ireland, combined with living in or near big cities has greatly influenced her subject matter.

The encroachment of the city into the landscape pushing up and out, yet if left untended as in a garden, the city soon turns to urban decay. This dichotomy in addition to fleeting images, speed, time passing and life's progression is what she paints in the abstract.

Her work is in private and corporate collections throughout the Bay Area and Ireland.
