Watercolors and Acrylic on Canvas

Most of life to date has been spent in South Africa. This has underpinned much of my subject matter in painting for many years. Painting subjects such as cultural artifacts and wildlife represented a lot of my interests and emotions around my past. These subjects, while interesting and/or beautiful, are all symbols of connections to my life in Africa, our connections to the environment and symbols of our fragile, tenuous existence in general.

In 2004 I began painting local landscape. In particular, the landscape around Edgewood County Preserve, San Mateo County.   This work is a reflection of my interest in natural history and my desire to bring local environment to the attention of others. I work as a docent in this and another local park, Ano Nuevo State park. I firmly believe we should all be knowledgeable about our local environment if we have any hope in conservation of our natural resources.

Watercolor has been my medium exclusively in the past years. Recently I have been painting on canvas with acrylics. Different but equally enjoyable for me !
